akistan Invites Meta to Collaborate on AI Ethics, Digital Safety, and E-Commerce Development Islamabad, October 29, 2025 — Pakistan has officially invited global tech giant Meta to collaborate on advancing AI ethics, digital safety, and e-commerce standards, marking a major step in the country’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its digital economy and integrate AI governance into national trade policy. The invitation was extended during a meeting between Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan and Rafael Frankel, Meta’s Director for Public Policy (South Asia), at the Ministry of Commerce in Islamabad. Meta — the parent company of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp — has been expanding its footprint in South Asia through initiatives that support small businesses, digital literacy, and responsible innovation. “Pakistan’s digital economy is among the fastest-growing in South Asia, driven by our youth, strong IT talent, and expanding connectivity,” said Minister Khan. “We welcome Meta’s collaboration through the Ministry’s IT Sectoral Council, particularly in areas like AI ethics, digital safety, and e-commerce regulation,” he added. The minister highlighted that Pakistan’s IT and IT-enabled services exports reached $3.8 billion last fiscal year — an 18% increase — and have grown an additional 21% year-on-year in the first quarter of FY2026. He also encouraged Meta to launch youth-focused AI skill development programs and consider initiating a Meta–Pakistan E-Commerce Accelerator Pilot to foster digital entrepreneurship across the country. Meta’s delegation praised Pakistan’s rapid digital transformation, expressing strong interest in expanding cooperation in AI-driven innovation, SME empowerment, and digital safety initiatives. Both sides agreed to maintain close coordination to promote innovation, safe online ecosystems, and economic empowerment through technology.
